Faith Communities Coalition on Foster Care Mural Project for Vista Maria
In the cold and dreariness of mid-January, a group of warmhearted volunteers offered their time and incredible talents to transform two family meeting rooms into a backyard filled with Michigan birds and an African Savannah. This heart-felt project and team effort was led by artist Diane Bert and coordinated by Faith Communities Coalition on Foster Care leader Rev. Kate Thoresen. Students from the University of Notre Dame Law School also chipped in as part of a service learning program called Project Galilee. The murals are a wonderful finishing touch to earlier work completed by Ford Motor Company volunteers. It was awesome indeed to observe their combined talents at work and
to experience the beautiful spirit with which they shared their gifts with those we serve. On the day of the “official unveiling”, Vista Maria staff were invited to participate by peeling off the blue painter’s tape – now covered over by multi-colored flowers – to reveal a white picket fence. (These cheerful souvenirs can now be seen attached to various and sundry doorframes, walls and bookcases here and there on the campus.)
Vista Maria is so blessed to have such terrific volunteers. We deeply appreciate these wonderful people and their efforts to create a beautiful and peaceful retreat for our children and families.
