Supervised Independent Living

This intensive program is designed for young women and men ages 16-21 who have successfully completed residential or foster care programs but who cannot return to the home of their parents for whatever reason.

Supervised Independent Living provides these older adolescents with the necessary support systems during their transitional phase from a youth in placement to an independent productive member of society. Youth are taught skills that lead to increasing self-reliance and self-esteem. HCCS staff provide youth with services such as the following.

Program Components and Activities

* Educational/Vocational planning.
* Job search assistance
* Securing medical and therapy appointments
* Life Skills Training
* Life coaching
* Financial planning
* Community resource development

Youth remain in Supervised Independent Living until they are ready for independent adulthood, generally when their wardship is terminated by the court. The program is designed to provide them with skills that will enable them to become independent of the social service system.

The goals of the program are to create self reliant young adults, provide youths with essential life skills, and ease the transition from placement to community life for youth leaving residential treatment or foster care.
