About SOCC

Save Our Children Coalition (SOCC)  - A project of the University of Michigan-Dearborn School of Education, the Save Our Children Coalition is a coordinating body which encourages collaboration among established and emerging community groups for Michigan’s children in foster care.


SOCC seeks to determine strengths in the foster care system, and supports the development of programs that fill gaps and correct problems.


SOCC's website focuses on a five-county area in Southeastern Michigan, providing links to foster care / foster youth resources.  The regions currently served includes the City of Detroit, Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, St. Clair and Macomb Counties.


SOCC concentrates on:



1. Community Outreach/Coordinating Services
2. Education
3. System Reform
 

The Coalition's activities include:


* Faith Communities Coalition on Foster Care
* Conferences on foster care issues
* Speakers Bureau
* Newsletter published bi-monthly
* Website with hundreds of area resources for foster care youth, families and foster care workers
